Thy Kingdom Come

For the past few years St John's Church has taken part in the global prayer event 'Thy Kingdom Come', set up by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

Between Ascension Day and Pentecost, all Christians all over the world unite in prayer in a variety of different ways.  We usually leave the church open for a continuous period of 24 hours, and many of you have come in and spent an hour in prayer (including through the night).

Although we cannot do it this year due to the Coronavirus lockdown, there are still a number of ways to take part if you wish:

  • Download the Thy Kingdom Come App - you can download the app from the app store onto your smartphone.  The app has daily reflections, readings, and encourages you to pick five people you can pray for, that they might come to know Christ.
  • Use the Prayer Journal
  • An hour of prayer the Saturday before Pentecost (or any other time you choose)
  • Adventure Map - suitable for families to use.
  • Tune into our new Daily Prayer sessions, led by either our Rector the Revd Matthew Stone or our Curate the Revd Jonny Rapson at 11am each day from Ascension Day to Pentecost.
  • For more information and ideas please look at the 'Thy Kingdom Come in Lockdown' website
