Children's Ministry

Have you got children that you would like to bring to church? We run a specific programme just for them!

Our aim is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. Our children's workers are appointed through interview only, are DBS checked and have first aid and safeguarding training.

We have a fantastic programme for all children at St John's.

Junior Church is available for children in Pre-School to Year 6, with a crèche for babies, toddlers and their parents. Junior Church and the crèche takes place in Church House, Old Church Lane, Stanmore.

We have an all-age service on the first Sunday of the month, and the children take an active part in the service, reading, serving and leading the prayers. During communion a child helps distribute bread and grapes as a symbol of our desire for all children to be included.

Junior Church also attends the whole service on special occasions such as Harvest, Christmas, Mothering Sunday, Dedication Festival and Easter.  On the 3rd Sunday of the month we have Junior Church games which takes place in Church House from 2-3pm.  Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun.

On the other Sundays in the month we meet in Church House in our appropriate age groups for story time, craft and worship. During their time in Church House the children are currently using Scripture Union material and they are split into the following groups:

Bubbles – Babies and toddlers
Splash – Pre-school to Year 2
X-Stream - Year 3 to Year 6
Grid – Year 7 and above (2nd and 4th Sundays)

We begin with a welcome and coming together for the lighting of the candle and the offering. We then sing together before going into our relevant groups. We also acknowledge birthdays at this point. During group time we have a Bible story which follows the lectionary. After the story we then move to the tables for a craft activity related to the theme of the day.

At the end of the session we play games and finishing with reflection and closing prayers depending on the time. The children are then split into colour coded age appropriate groups so that they are safe when walking over to Church. We then join the main congregation in time for communion or a blessing.

Junior Church is staffed by DBS checked leaders and helpers all of whom have up to date DBS checks in place in line with the Diocese of London's Safeguarding Policy which we follow closely.
